2027 Elections: Nawai-ru-deen Society Urges Muslims to Shun Apathy, Vote Responsibly

The leadership of the Nawai-ru-deen Society has urged Muslims across Lagos State to shun political apathy and actively participate in the electoral process by voting for credible candidates.

The call was made during a sensitisation engagement with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Lagos Directorate of Muslim Affairs, held at the Nawai-ru-deen Central Mosque, Lagos Island, during the Jumat service on Friday.

The engagement, chaired by the Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde Akinmade, was led by the Director of Muslim Affairs, Alhaji Waheed Tella, alongside Hajia Idayat Aloba (Esq.), Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot and other stakeholders.

Receiving the delegation, the Chief Imam of the Nawai-ru-deen Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul Majeed Ayinla, called on Muslims to take their civic responsibilities seriously and learn from past experiences by participating actively in elections.

He urged eligible voters to make informed choices, support credible candidates and prepare for the economic changes that could accompany national development.

“We must learn from our past. Muslims should not be reluctant to participate in elections. We should vote responsibly, support the right candidates, and prepare ourselves for the economic changes that accompany national development,” Imam Ayinla said.

In his remarks, Tella highlighted what he described as some of the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda, citing initiatives including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), road infrastructure projects and social intervention programmes.

He urged all eligible voters with Permanent Voter Cards to participate in the elections, stressing the need for a peaceful, free and fair electoral process.

Tella also called for support for the re-election of President Tinubu and the election of Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as Governor of Lagos State.

He said active participation in elections remained essential to strengthening democracy and ensuring that citizens had a voice in determining the leadership of the country and the state.

Also speaking, a member of the Renewed Hope Committee, Alhaji Tajudeen Uzamot, described the participation of Muslims in elections as critical to the realisation of the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Uzamot commended the Nawai-ru-deen Society for hosting the engagement and urged members of the Muslim community to take voter education and civic participation seriously.

The former Chairperson of the Women’s Wing of the Nawai-ru-deen Society, Alhaja Rasheedat Danmole, called for increased voter education among Muslim women.

She noted that women could play a significant role in educating one another and ensuring that members of their communities were adequately informed ahead of elections.

The engagement ended with a collective call for peaceful, credible and transparent elections, with participants reaffirming their commitment to promoting civic responsibility and encouraging greater voter participation among Muslims across Lagos State.
