Pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

NEWSNGR reports that videos circulating online also showed some of the freed victims following their rescue.

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a post on his 𝕏 handle on Friday.

Onanuga said security forces rescued the schoolchildren and their teachers, ending weeks of uncertainty over their whereabouts.

Announcing the development, the presidential aide initially said the victims had been freed by their abductors before clarifying that they were rescued by security forces.

“Finally, the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been freed by their abductors. The kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by Security Forces,” Onanuga wrote.

In one of the videos seen online, the school principal, identified as Mrs Alamu, expressed gratitude to Tinubu and security personnel for securing their freedom.

Alamu thanked the President and the operatives involved in the rescue, expressing relief that the abducted pupils and teachers returned alive.

The development comes more than 50 days after the victims were taken from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, sparking widespread concern over their safety and repeated calls for intensified rescue efforts.
