Photos: First Lady Remi Tinubu Turns Farmer, Harvests Vegetables
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Monday harvested vegetables from her garden at the State House, Abuja, as she urged Nigerians to embrace home gardening to improve household food security.
Tinubu said cultivating vegetables and other crops around homes could help families supplement their food needs, promote healthy eating and reduce the cost of feeding.
She encouraged Nigerians to make productive use of available spaces within their homes by growing crops for immediate family consumption.
The First Lady maintained that home gardening remained a practical approach to supporting household food needs, particularly by providing families with access to fresh vegetables.
She urged citizens to sustain the practice and consider food production as a shared responsibility that could begin from individual households.
Her advocacy comes amid efforts by the Federal Government to promote agriculture, improve food production and encourage greater self-sufficiency across the country.
NEWSNGR reports that Senator Remi Tinubu had faced backlash from many Nigerians after advising that starting small businesses such as akara, roasted corn, and kuli-kuli requires little capital.
NEWSNGR reports that Remi, while speaking with journalists in a video that is making rounds online, explained the administration’s support for small businesses through grants rather than loans.
She said, “To start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli-kuli doesn’t take much. We didn’t give them a loan, we gave them a grant. We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could. I also gave to several others.”
