Muhammadu Buhari First Year Remembrance Holds Monday

Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has announced plans for a prayer and remembrance gathering to mark the first anniversary of the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

NEWSNGR reports that Ahmad disclosed this in a statement shared on his official 𝕏 page on Tuesday, saying the event would hold on Monday, July 13, in honour of Buhari’s life, legacy and years of service to Nigeria.

“On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing,” he wrote.

Ahmad described the late former president as a leader who devoted his life to serving Nigeria with “commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism.”

Ahmad said Buhari’s contributions to national development and political history would remain part of Nigeria’s story.

According to him, family members, friends, associates and Nigerians will gather for prayers and reflection in memory of the former president.

He added that prayers would be offered for Allah to forgive Buhari’s shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and continue to comfort his family, loved ones and the nation.

“May Allah grant him eternal rest. Ameen,” Ahmad concluded.

NEWSNGR recalls that Buhari died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.

His remains were later flown back to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

The late president served as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023.

He made history in 2015 as the first opposition candidate in Nigeria to defeat an incumbent president. He was re-elected in 2019 and completed his second term in 2023.

The planned remembrance is expected to bring together family members, former aides, political associates and supporters to reflect on his leadership, legacy and contributions to Nigeria.
