Eight Gateway Polytechnic Students Abducted by Gunmen in Ogun
Eight students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade (GAPOSA), have reportedly been abducted after armed men attacked their residence in the Ipara area of Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to a student who spoke anonymously, the incident occurred at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday when the gunmen stormed the students’ residence and whisked away eight occupants.
Following the attack, the institution suspended all computer-based and written examinations scheduled for Thursday.
In a notice issued to students, the management confirmed that only Thursday’s examinations had been cancelled, while examinations slated for Friday would proceed as planned unless a further announcement was made.
The statement urged students to remain calm and continue preparing for their examinations, expressing optimism that the situation would soon be brought under control.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that an abduction was reported in the Ipara area. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said tactical teams, including operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit, had been deployed to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
Police have yet to disclose the exact number of students abducted, while efforts to secure the victims’ release are ongoing. More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
