Gubio Will Choose His Running Mate – Zulum

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said the choice of the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election rests with the party’s governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio.
NEWSNGR reports that Zulum stated this during a visit to the palace of the Emir of Biu in the Biu Local Government Area of the state.
The governor disclosed that the APC governorship candidate was expected to announce his running mate next week.
According to him, about 27 aspirants have indicated interest in becoming the party’s deputy governorship candidate.
Zulum said he and other party stakeholders would only offer advice during the selection process, stressing that the final decision would be made by Gubio.
He said the choice should be guided by competence, fairness, and the overall interests of Borno State, rather than by sectional considerations.
The governor urged residents to pray for a peaceful process that would produce a suitable running mate for the APC governorship candidate.
Zulum recalled that when he selected his own running mate, he received advice from then-governor, Kashim Shettima, but made the final decision himself.
He stressed that no candidate was imposed on him at the time.
NEWSNGR understands that there have been cases of candidate changes within the ruling party across the country.
