‘We No Go Gree’ – Nigerians Stranded In South Africa Protest Delayed Evacuation (Video)

Some Nigerians who remain stranded in South Africa folowing the renewed xenophobic attacks in the country, have cried out over delayed evacuation flights.

NEWSNGR understands that the Nigerians, who are interested in leaving South Africa, staged a protest at the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria over delays in repatriation flights and the processing of their return to the country.

According to a video shared online by News Central and seen by our correspondent, the protesters were heard chanting “we no go gree o, we wan go” during the protest.

The video comes amid ongoing repatriation efforts for Nigerians seeking to leave South Africa following renewed anti-immigration tensions and xenophobic concerns in the country.

NEWSNGR recalls that the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks arrived in Lagos about two weeks ago.

The returnees, numbering 262, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard a government-arranged evacuation flight operated by Air Peace.

The flight, which was coordinated by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies, was part of efforts to bring home Nigerians affected by the recent violence and anti-immigrant protests in South Africa.

The evacuees arrived safely at the airport, where officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and security agencies were on ground to receive them.

Meanwhile, the federal government has assured Nigerians residing in South Africa that all citizens who have indicated interest in returning home amid ongoing anti-migrant attacks will be evacuated before the June 30 deadline.

The assurance was given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in a statement issued on Thursday by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Magnus Eze.

According to the minister, the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to the safety and welfare of Nigerians abroad and will ensure that no willing citizen is left behind.
