Police Confirms Attack On Borno School, Students Abduction
Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters on Monday attacked Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attackers reportedly abducted an unspecified number of students who were writing the National Examinations Council examination.
The gunmen were said to have invaded the school around 9 am, shooting sporadically and causing panic among students, teachers and residents.
A teacher was reportedly killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.
Confirming the incident, the Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, said some students were still unaccounted for.
“At about 9 a.m., an unspecified number of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists attacked a secondary school and shot sporadically into the air. During the attack, an unspecified number of students were abducted, while some are still missing,” Daso said.
He added that the command could not immediately confirm reports of fatalities.
Daso said security operatives, including the military, Civilian Joint Task Force and the area commander in Askira/Uba, had begun a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
He said the team was combing the surrounding forests to rescue the abducted students and arrest the attackers.
