Oyo Launches Pension Reform: Oyo Government Sets July Roll…

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the implementation of a Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for eligible workers in the state’s public service, with the programme set to commence on July 1, 2026.

The development was announced by the Chairman of the Oyo State Pensions Board, Tunji Adekunle, made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.

Adekunle disclosed that the scheme will apply to officers who joined the Oyo State Civil and Public Service from January 1, 2025, while formal implementation will begin in July 2026.

Under the approved arrangement, the state government will contribute 12 per cent of each participating employee’s pension contribution, while workers will contribute the remaining eight per cent, in line with the adopted funding structure.

He also assured that the government would settle all accrued pension benefits due to employees covered by the new scheme once implementation begins.

To facilitate a smooth rollout, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to submit comprehensive records of all personnel employed from January 1, 2025, using the prescribed Excel template. The information is to be provided in both electronic and hard-copy formats.

In addition, every MDA is expected to appoint a Pension Desk Officer who will serve as the primary contact between the agency and the Oyo State Pensions Board. The designated officer is required to provide details including their name, official designation, grade level, telephone number, WhatsApp contact and email address.

According to the circular, the creation of dedicated desk officers is intended to strengthen coordination, improve accountability and ensure the efficient administration of pension-related matters across government institutions.

The Pensions Board directed that all required documents and information be submitted no later than Monday, June 22, 2026.
