Oyebanji In Closed-Door Meeting With PDP Candidate After Ekiti Gov Poll
Ekiti State Governor and Governor-elect, Biodun Oyebanji, is holding a closed-door meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the June 20 election, Wole Oluyede.
NEWSNGR reports that the meeting is taking place at Oluyede’s country home in Ikere-Ekiti.
It is also being attended by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and some leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
The development came hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji the winner of Saturday’s governorship election.
NEWSNGR reports that the governor was re-elected after polling 319,224 votes over his closest rivals in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olumayokun Oluyede and African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, across the state’s 16 local governments.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof Adenike Oladiji, who is the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure, announced the results in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC’s headquarters on Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The meeting is believed to be part of Oyebanji’s reconciliation efforts and consultations with key political stakeholders after the poll.
Earlier on Sunday, Oyebanji said he had reached out to Oluyede and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Dare Bejide.
He said the election was over and urged political actors to work together for Ekiti’s development, irrespective of party affiliation.
Sources who spoke with The Nation said discussions at the meeting centred on post-election unity, peace and the continued progress of the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the meeting is still ongoing.
