‘National Assembly Was Procured To Get Tinubu Reinstated’ – Udenta

A political analyst and founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Professor Udenta Udenta, has alleged that the National Assembly was procured to amend the Electoral Act to favour President Bola Tinubu.

NEWSNGR reports that Udenta made the claim on Thursday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.

He accused the current administration of shrinking the civic space and using the criminal justice system against perceived opponents.

Udenta said, “The National Assembly was procured to amend the Electoral Act to get Tinubu reinstated into power.

“Since the inception of this government in 2023, we have discussed this matter. The dwindling or shrinking civic spaces, the brutal assault on labour centres, the weaponisation via lawfare of the criminal justice system.

“The war declared on political parties, that is, multi-party democracy, by a regime tiptoeing into totalitarianism.”

Udenta also questioned the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the conduct of party primaries.

“How come the same INEC under Tinubu stopped primaries on May 30? Because they didn’t even think opposition parties would succeed at their primaries,” he said.

Meanwhile, INEC has suspended an electoral officer allegedly linked to the recent unauthorised disclosure of voter data.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this on Thursday during a fireside chat organised by the Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa in Abuja.

The controversy followed the circulation of voter registration details belonging to actor and politician, Emeka Ike, during a dispute arising from a political party primary election in the Federal Capital Territory.

The commission said preliminary findings showed that its ICT infrastructure was not hacked and that there was no wider compromise of the voter register.
