Lagos police reacts to terror threat at Pan-Atlantic University
The Lagos State commissioner of police, Olohundare Jimoh, has reassured the public of safety at Pan-Atlantic University, Lekki, following concerns sparked by a viral video showing two masked individuals emerging from a nearby forest.
Jimoh conducted an on-the-spot security assessment at the institution alongside operational personnel to evaluate the situation and reassure students, staff, and parents of ongoing security measures.
During the visit, the police chief met with the university’s management and emphasised the need to strengthen the institution’s security architecture to prevent potential threats.
He advised on practical steps to enhance safety within and around the campus, warning against actions that could undermine existing security structures.
According to a statement by the Lagos State Police Command, Jimoh stressed the importance of proactive security measures, particularly in perimeter protection, access control, and collaboration with relevant security agencies.
To further boost security in the area, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), in collaboration with the state government, has deployed surveillance drones to support law enforcement operations around the university and adjoining communities.
The deployment is expected to enhance aerial surveillance, intelligence gathering, and crime prevention across the axis.
Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring the university community of a swift response to any security concerns.
“The Command remains committed to the protection of lives and property across Lagos State,” he said, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
The police also encouraged residents to utilise the Command’s emergency lines to report incidents and movements that may pose security risks.
The security assessment followed heightened public concern triggered by the viral video, with authorities moving swiftly to strengthen surveillance and restore confidence in the safety of the institution and its environs.
