Kano not safe haven for criminals, fraudsters — CP Bakori
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has declared that the state will not serve as a safe haven for criminals and fraudsters.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
He said the warning was made during the handing over of stolen vehicles to their rightful owners.
According to the statement, “Following the successful recovery of four stolen vehicles through intelligence-led police operations Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Badawa Division during coordinated operations carried out across Kano, Yobe and Kaduna states within the past week.
“One of the major breakthroughs involved the arrest of a suspect, Suleiman Umar, in Damaturu, Yobe State, over the alleged use of a fake bank alert to fraudulently obtain a red Kia Forte valued at N9.5 million from a Lagos-based automobile dealer. The suspect reportedly confessed to the offence, and the vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner.”
He said that, in another operation, police recovered a red Dalhatsu Sirion reportedly stolen from outside its owner’s residence in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. The vehicle was found abandoned, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
The command also recovered an ash-coloured Hyundai Elantra allegedly stolen from an event centre in Kano. Police said the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Zaria, Kaduna State, during a tactical operation before fleeing the scene.
Similarly, a Toyota ambulance belonging to EHA Special Hospital, stolen alongside solar batteries and other valuables after suspected attackers assaulted security guards, was recovered abandoned along Zaria Road and returned to the hospital management.
While receiving their vehicles, the owners commended the Kano State Police Command for its swift response and professionalism in recovering and returning them.
The Commissioner of Police warned that criminals involved in vehicle theft and fraud would find no refuge in Kano State.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing investigations and enhance public safety.
