JUST IN: Former APC board chairman joins Labour Party
The Labour Party (LP) in Abia has announced that Nduka Anyanwu, a former member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has defected to the party.
In a statement on Friday, Emenike Iroegbu, publicity secretary of the Labour Party in Abia, said members of the party’s state working committee visited Anyanwu following his decision to join the LP.
According to the statement, Anyanwu is a former governing board chairman of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) and one of the founding members of the APC in Abia and Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, Anyanwu said no individual persuaded him to leave the APC, noting that his decision was informed by what he described as visible development under the administration of Alex Otti, governor of Abia.
His words: “It is only a wicked person or a blind man that will say Governor Alex Otti is not doing well. Even those who criticize him publicly often acknowledge his performance privately. Development is visible everywhere across Abia State.”
Anyanwu said recent improvements in infrastructure and public services have changed perceptions about the state among members of his family.
“My wife is one of the strongest supporters of Governor Alex Otti today because she has seen the changes taking place. My children now look forward to coming home because Abia is becoming attractive again,” he stated.
The former APC chieftain said he could no longer justify remaining in a different political party from that of a governor he believes is delivering results.
According to him, he is joining the Labour Party alongside more than 700 members of his political structure and supporters.
His words: “I am not joining the Labour Party because I am looking for something. I am joining because I believe in what Governor Alex Otti is doing and I want to contribute to the success of the party and the continued development of our State. I am coming with over 700 members of my political family and associates.”
