JUST IN: Bandits Attack Burial Ceremony in Kaduna, Kill Two Mourners

Suspected armed Fulani bandits have launched a deadly attack on a burial ceremony in Angwar Magaji village, located in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving two persons dead and three others injured in what residents described as a sudden and terrifying invasion.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the armed men stormed the community during a mourning gathering.

The attackers were said to have opened fire on mourners who had gathered to pay their last respects to a deceased community member. The atmosphere quickly turned chaotic as people fled in different directions for safety.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post shared on X.

According to information attributed to security sources, the attackers arrived in large numbers and operated for several minutes before fleeing the scene.

By the time calm was restored, two residents had been confirmed dead on the spot, while three others sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries. The wounded victims were immediately evacuated to the Primary Health Care Centre in Barkin Kogi, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Military personnel under Operation Enduring Peace were quickly deployed following a distress call from the community. The troops reportedly arrived after the attackers had already escaped but proceeded to secure the area to prevent further escalation and assist in evacuation efforts.

Security authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators and disrupt their movements across surrounding communities, as the area remains under surveillance following repeated incidents of armed attacks in parts of Kaduna State.

Residents of Angwar Magaji have been left in shock, as burial ceremonies, which are traditionally moments of mourning and unity, were violently disrupted. Community members have continued to call for increased military presence and improved security response in rural settlements that have repeatedly come under attack.
