INEC Declares Biodun Oyebanji Winner Of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and incumbent governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

Oyebanji was re-elected after recording a landslide victory, polling 319,224 votes across the state’s 16 local government areas. His closest challengers, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, scored 40,533 votes and 12,872 votes respectively.

The Returning Officer for the election, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji announced the final results in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.

Declaring the result, Oladiji said Oyebanji had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner and re-elected governor of Ekiti State.

According to INEC’s figures, a total of 988,251 voters were registered for the election, while 384,940 voters were accredited. Out of the 382,109 votes cast, 375,777 votes were recorded as valid.

The APC candidate dominated the election, winning all 16 local government areas of the state. Even in the PDP candidate’s home local government area, Efon, Oyebanji defeated his rival, scoring 8,742 votes against the PDP’s 2,051 votes.

The results showed strong support for the incumbent across several LGAs, including Ado, where APC secured 38,026 votes, Ekiti West with 28,258 votes, Irepodun/Ifelodun with 29,278 votes, Ikole with 26,508 votes, and Ekiti East with 26,359 votes.
