FG Unveils FreeTV, Offers Nigerians Access To Over 100 Channels

The Federal Government is set to launch FreeTV, a new national digital television platform designed to provide Nigerians with free access to a wide range of television content without subscription fees.

According to a statement released, the platform will officially go live today June 17, 2026 and will offer viewers access to more than 100 national, regional and state television channels across the country.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to deepen digital broadcasting, expand access to information and entertainment, and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to digital television services.

Officials said FreeTV would enable households to enjoy diverse programming, including news, sports, entertainment, educational and cultural content, without the burden of monthly subscription payments typically associated with pay-TV services.

The government noted that the platform is expected to improve media accessibility, particularly for low-income households and residents in underserved communities, while promoting local content and strengthening the country’s broadcasting industry.
