Defence Spikers, CNS Spikers, Customs Dominate Day 8 Of CGC

The third phase of the CGC Volleyball Premier League continued in Abuja on Day 8 on Monday, with a full slate of men’s and women’s fixtures that produced a blend of dominant displays, hard-fought comebacks, and tightly contested set battles, underscoring the growing intensity of the competition.

Across both categories, several teams reinforced their dominance, while others were pushed to the limit in matches that stretched into four sets and, in some cases, extended deuce battles that tested endurance and composure.

The Defence Spikers emerged one of the standout sides of the day, securing a 3-1 win over Kano Pillars.

Although Kano Pillars briefly levelled the contest in the second set, Defence Spikers quickly regained control, showing superior structure in attack and consistency in defence to close out the match 25-13 in the fourth set.

CNS Spikers also delivered a strong performance against Life Camp VC in a match defined by momentum swings.

Both sides traded sets early, but CNS Spikers’ tactical discipline and sharper finishing in the fourth set proved decisive in their 3-1 victory.

The Nigeria Police Force continued their solid campaign with a narrow but important 3-1 win over Offa VC. Despite losing the third set, Police Force held their nerve in the closing stages of the fourth set to seal the match.

Nigeria Customs Service recorded one of the most controlled performances of the day, dispatching UCEM VC in straight sets.

Their dominance was most evident in the second set, where they restricted UCEM VC to just 14 points.

Ajase Ipo VC also impressed, producing a clean 3-0 sweep over Sunshine Spikers. The second set proved the most competitive of the match, stretching into a 28-point thriller before Ajase Ipo VC edged it to take full control of the fixture.

COAS Spikers rounded off the men’s action with a hard-earned 3-1 victory over Nigeria Correctional Service in one of the most intense matches of the day.

Both teams displayed strong attacking play and solid blocking systems, with COAS Spikers edging two tight sets to secure the win.

In the women’s fixtures, COAS Spikers set the tone early with a straight-sets victory over VIP & Partners VC. Despite the scoreline, the second and third sets were closely contested, highlighting the competitiveness of the opposition.

NAF Rockets followed with a dominant display against Kada Emeralds, controlling the tempo from start to finish and winning comfortably in straight sets.

Nigeria Customs Service produced one of the most one-sided results of the day, overpowering Anambra Queens with a commanding performance that saw them concede just 31 total points across three sets.

CNS Spikers also impressed with a disciplined 3-0 win over Olalomi Royal Angels, maintaining consistent pressure across all three sets to secure a comfortable victory.

NSCDC showed resilience in their 3-1 win over Life Camp VC, bouncing back strongly after dropping the third set to close out the match convincingly in the fourth.

Benue Queens wrapped up the women’s fixtures with a hard-fought straight-sets win over Excelsior VC. The second set proved the highlight of the match, stretching into a marathon 29-27 finish before Benue Queens sealed the sweep.

Following the intense men’s encounter between COAS Spikers and Nigeria Correctional Service, head coach Elishama Elam described the match as highly demanding and praised both sides for their quality and competitiveness.

“Very, very interesting match. Very hot match. And at the end, I will say I appreciate God. Just like everybody knows, Correctional Service has a good team.

“If you look at all departments of the game, they are excellent. So I don’t have regret. I thank God for everything,” Elam said.

Day 8 of the CGC Volleyball Premier League once again highlighted the increasing competitiveness of the Abuja phase, with teams tightening their performances and intensifying their push as the tournament progresses toward its next stage.
