Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, has died at the age of 69. His death occurred in the early hours of Saturday, sparking reactions across political and traditional circles in the state.

Katagum served as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State between 2018 and 2019 under the administration of former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.

He was also a respected traditional title holder, known as the Wazirin Katagum.

His passing was confirmed in a statement issued by Shamsuddeen Lukman Abubakar, the digital and creative media aide to former Governor M.A. Abubakar.

The statement read, “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raji’un. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arch. Audu Sule Katagum, Wazirin Katagum and former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State.”

It further added, “The deceased passed away in the early hours of today after a life of dedicated service to his community, Bauchi State and the nation,” Lukman said.

According to the statement, funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course. Prayers were also offered for the repose of his soul.

“May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends and associates the fortitude to bear this great loss. Ameen,” he prayed.

Before his tenure as deputy governor, Katagum served as Chief of Staff at the Bauchi State Government House. He was widely regarded as a committed public servant with strong ties to both governance and traditional institutions.

He also held the revered traditional title of Wazirin Katagum, a position that further strengthened his influence within the Katagum Emirate.

He was the son of the late elder statesman, Alhaji Sule Katagum, the first Chairman of Nigeria’s Federal Public Service Commission, and also a holder of the same traditional title.

His death has been described by close associates and community members as a major loss to Bauchi State and the Katagum Emirate. Many have highlighted his contributions to governance, community development, and public service.
