BREAKING: EFCC Set to Probe VDM, Deji Adeyanju

Published

on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to commence an investigation into activist-lawyer Deji Adeyanju and social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

The investigation is linked to allegations of terror financing, suspected illicit funding channels, and other issues bordering on national security.

It follows a petition filed before the anti-graft agency on June 17, 2026, by lawyer Blessing Agbomhere, who requested a probe into the duo’s sources of funding, sponsorship arrangements, and financial activities.

Specifically, the lawyer wants investigators to scrutinize the funding behind their public protests, legal interventions, media campaigns, and advocacy work to ensure everything complies with anti-money laundering laws and financial regulations.

The petitioner clarified that while public advocacy is a constitutionally protected right, the massive scale of their campaigns raises legitimate questions. Agbomhere noted that hidden funding has sometimes been used by local or foreign actors to manipulate political narratives and weaken state institutions. Because of this, he wants the EFCC to perform a forensic audit on their bank accounts, assets, income sources, and corporate entities to check for signs of tax evasion, money laundering, or foreign interference.

Agbomhere has urged the EFCC to work alongside national intelligence and security agencies to find out if the money behind these two men poses any threat to Nigeria.

However, he carefully stated that the petition is not an outright declaration of guilt. Instead, he argued that the investigation is a necessary step for public accountability, adding that if the EFCC finds that all their funds are legal, it will simply clear the air and prove the integrity of both VeryDarkMan and Adeyanju.
