Abia Assembly to invite security chiefs over kidnappings, other security breaches
Abia State House of Assembly has resolved to invite security chiefs in the State for a critical meeting directed towards confronting the rising security breaches, particularly kidnapping in some parts of the State.
This resolution was unanimously passed on Tuesday during the House of Assembly plenary session.
The House of Assembly’s decision followed a motion contained in “a matter of urgent public importance” presented by the deputy Speaker, Augustine Okezie Mmeregini about the kidnapping of Mr. Dennis Okechi Izuchukwu and Mrs. Onyiyechi Ekechukwu at Umuawa, Alaocha community, Ohuhu, Umuahia North LGA, by suspected gunmen.
Augustine Okezie Mmeregini, who described the precarious development as an insurgency of kidnapping and other vices in Abia State, called on the House to urge the Abia State Homeland Security Agency and sister security agencies of the state to step up their efforts in securing the lives and property of Abia people.
The deputy Speaker prayed the House to urge the Mayors of the 17 Local Government Areas in the state to reactivate and strengthen the community vigilant groups in their various LGAs.
He also said that traditional rulers and Presidents-General of the various communities in the State should be encouraged by the Mayors of the LGAs to be vigilant in their various localities, among other prayers.
Taking a resolution on the matter, the House presided over by the Speaker, Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the security issues that were raised as very critical.
The parliament supported the the Deputy Speaker’s prayers and resolved to invite security chiefs in the State for an interface.
