ADC Governorship Candidate Blames Poor Political Recruitment For Hardship, Bad Governance In Nigeria

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State for the 2027 general election, Obodoeze Ocho, has blamed poor and compromised political recruitment processes for bad governance and the growing economic hardship in Enugu State and other parts of Nigeria.
Ocho made this known during the Enugu North zonal stakeholders’ meeting held in Nsukka over the weekend.
He criticised the processes through which political candidates emerge, saying that qualified and credible individuals are often denied opportunities because the political system does not provide a level playing field for everyone.
According to him, the ADC is committed to ensuring that competent and trustworthy individuals emerge as candidates for elective positions through transparent, free and fair processes.
Ocho maintained that the party would prioritise integrity and competence in selecting candidates capable of providing effective leadership and addressing the challenges facing the people.
He said, “ADC is firmly committed to fielding credible individuals of unquestionable character across all elective positions in the state and indeed Nigeria. Our candidates emerge through free and fair means to avoid post-election crises. We are one family, and won’t deceive Ndi Enugu. That has been our mantra nationwide.”
During the meeting, the ADC also unveiled its senatorial candidate for Enugu North Senatorial District, Dr Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi.
The Enugu State Chairman of the party, retired General Chris Eze, explained that the delay in announcing the senatorial candidate was deliberate, as the party wanted to conduct a thorough screening process before making its choice.
Eze said the ADC was determined to present candidates with strong credentials and the capacity to defeat their opponents in the forthcoming elections.
He emphasised that the party would not compromise its standards because of its commitment to the welfare and interests of the people.
The party chairman urged residents of Enugu North to reject politicians who rely on financial inducements to win elections and instead support candidates who are genuinely committed to protecting their interests.
Speaking after his unveiling, the ADC senatorial candidate, Dr Ugochukwu Ugwuanyi, a United Kingdom-trained neurosurgeon and member of the Royal College of Surgeons, promised to provide effective representation for the people of Enugu North.
Ugwuanyi said he would promote people-oriented legislation and ensure that the interests of his constituents remain a priority.
He also pledged to work towards the actualisation of Adada State, which has remained a long-standing aspiration among the people of the area.
