Suspect arrested after Fulani man dies from gunshot wounds in Plateau

A Berom militia member suspected in the shooting of a Fulani man, identified as Alhaji Aminu, who died from gunshot injuries sustained during an attack at Dumak Kobpar in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been arrested by troops.
Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X on Wednesday, stated that security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when Aminu was allegedly shot by an armed youth identified as Piyaplong, reportedly from Dumak community.
Makama explained that Aminu sustained gunshot injuries during the incident but later succumbed to the wounds.
The suspect, he said, was reportedly arrested following the incident and is expected to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The security analyst said that the incident comes amid persistent security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where communal tensions and attacks have continued to pose challenges to peaceful coexistence.
He explained that security authorities are expected to investigate the killing and establish the motive behind the attack, while urging residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could trigger reprisals or further escalate tensions in the area.
