Nigerian youths ready to play role in national development – Niger Delta activist to FG

A frontline Niger Delta activist, Mallam Julius Obi, has told the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government that youths in the Niger Delta are prepared, disciplined and ready to carry out national responsibilities.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on behalf of the United Niger Delta Congress, Obi noted that some youths in the region have shown that such responsibilities, including the security of pipelines, can be entrusted to them.
According to him, the Niger Delta is safer while the nation’s crude is flowing based on the fact that youths in the region are doing the job.
“We also address a word to the Federal Government… Nigeria is full of young men and women who are prepared, disciplined and ready to carry national responsibilities,” he said.
He said that being a youth should not be a disqualification from strategic assignments but, when matched with preparation and character, a national asset.
“We urge the Federal Government to keep opening the doors of strategic national service to young Nigerians who have earned trust the only way it can be earned, by delivery,” Obi added.
Furthermore, he commended President Tinubu for sustaining the security reforms in the oil and gas industry; the National Security Adviser, NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for coordinating the protection of the nation’s pipelines, and the management of NNPCL for providing the enabling environment.
Recall that recently the House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities, acting through its technical subcommittee, investigated petitions brought against some pipeline surveillance contractors and found the allegations against them unsubstantiated.
The subcommittee recommended the dismissal of the petition, the discontinuation of further investigation. Reacting to the development, Obi stated that it was right that due process was followed, adding that efficient operations in safeguarding oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta should always get a vote of confidence.
