The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Police Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi has reacted to the concerns raised by the residents of Aba about the alleged misconduct of some police officers in the city.

He disclosed that the Command’s X-Squad was being activated to monitor officers at various duty posts.

CP Afolabi, who addressed community leaders and youths of Aba during a police/community engagement, reiterated the Inspector-General of Police’s stance on professionalism and accountability.

The Commissioner of Police also encouraged the prompt reporting of misconduct through his contact line and that of the Command’s Complaint Response Unit, CRU, which he said were shared with the youths.

While advising the Aba youths to dress responsibly and remain law-abiding, CP Afolabi stressed that no one should be treated as a criminal based on appearance.

On the rising theft of cars in Aba, CP Afolabi advised the residents to use wheel locks, pedal locks, and vehicle trackers, keep security contacts handy, and share credible security information with the police.

Presenting their appeals earlier, the residents reported to the CP about the conduct of some police officers who allegedly extort huge sums of money from motorists and other residents before granting them bail.

The Aba residents also cried out that some policemen, who were dressed in mufti, usually profiled and arrested youths because of their casual appearances.

They also complained of regular harassment of people whose vehicles have factory-fitted windows.
