Youth Minister Launches NYSC E-Training Portal

The Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has launched the NYSC Staff E-Training Portal as part of efforts to improve efficiency, professionalism and access to knowledge among staff of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

In a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Information, the Minister launched the portal during the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Abuja, where he reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the NYSC.

Olawande commended the NYSC leadership for introducing innovations aimed at improving efficiency and expressed satisfaction with the technology-driven transformation of the Scheme in recent times.

He said increased access to knowledge and professionalism among NYSC staff would contribute to a more effective workforce.

“This platform would also help to build more efficient, knowledgeable and responsive workforce. We are committed towards making the Scheme get better, let us work together and embrace technology”, Olawande said.

The Minister also stressed the need for Corps Members to acquire practical skills beyond academic qualifications, noting that degrees alone could not address the challenges of unemployment.

“Our Corps Members must learn practical skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, critical thinking, problems-solving.”

“They must also understand the importance of discipline, integrity, and personal responsibility. Every Corps Member must be encouraged to make meaningful impact”, he stated.

Olawande reiterated that the national service year should provide graduates with an opportunity to serve, lead and contribute meaningfully to national development.

He disclosed that Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) remained the most important content of the NYSC programme.

Also speaking, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, said societal changes had made it necessary for the Scheme to constantly review the contents of its Orientation Course to ensure greater relevance.

He said the theme of the workshop, “Reimagining the NYSC Orientation Course: Building Resilient, Responsible and Service-Oriented Corps Members for a Changing World”, was designed to shape the character, mindset, skills and civic awareness of Corps Members.

Nafiu added that the success of the Orientation Course depended largely on effective collaboration among all stakeholders.

“I encourage everyone to keep building the partnership and trust needed for the security and welfare of Corps Members wherever they are posted across the country”, he said.

“Management remains committed to working with security agencies to access risk, take preemptive steps and make Corps Members safe throughout service year”, he added.

The Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Nura Umar, commended Olawande for his commitment to youth development.

Umar said the Orientation Camp represented the first point of contact for every Corps Member at the beginning of the service year, making it necessary to shape their character, values and understanding of national responsibility.

He stressed the need to modernise the contents, methodology and delivery of the Orientation Exercise to reflect contemporary realities.

“It is necessary to rebuild and modernise the contents, methodology and delivery of the Orientation Exercise to ensure that it remains focused and align with contemporary realities.”

Umar urged participants to use the workshop to develop strategies for strengthening stakeholder relationships, improving the welfare and safety of Corps Members, enhancing camp administration, strengthening discipline and leadership development, and improving Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.
