Nigerian rapper Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has defended his controversial remarks about TikTok star Peller, insisting that he stands by his comments despite the backlash.
Speaking in an interview with Cool FM Lagos, YCee said he had been criticised for mentioning Peller by name but maintained that he had no reason to apologise.
“Some people are saying I shouldn’t have called Peller’s name, but I said what I said. If you feel offended, you should check yourself.”
YCee also dismissed suggestions that his comments were directed at streamers and content creators generally, saying his criticism was focused on what he described as “brain-rot” content.
“A lot of people are also taking what I said out of context. The olodo uprising is even worse than I thought because there are so many people coming out to defend it.”
He said the growth of such content should not discourage intelligent Nigerians from venturing into streaming and content creation.
“My call is to people that are tired of brain-rot content. There is no reason why intelligent people cannot be streamers or content creators.”
The controversy followed YCee’s appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, where he criticised what he described as the growing acceptance of unintelligent and ignorant content in Nigeria.
His reference to Peller during the discussion triggered reactions online, with Peller and his fiancée, Jarvis, among those who responded to the rapper’s comments.
YCee has now reiterated his position during the Cool FM Lagos interview, maintaining that his remarks were taken out of context and that he remains critical of the type of content he believes is contributing to the “olodo uprising.”
