Valencia Sack Corberán, Gourlay After Poor Start

Valencia have dismissed head coach Carlos Corberán and Football CEO Ron Gourlay following a disappointing start to the season and concerns over the club’s transfer planning.
The Spanish club announced that it had terminated the contracts of Gourlay and his team, including Lisandro Isei, Hans Gillhaus, Andrés Zamora and Malek Shafei, who were appointed in November.
Valencia thanked the departing officials for their work, noting that Corberán oversaw 72 official matches during his time in charge. The club said details of a new structure would be announced soon as it seeks to restore stability and confidence.
Valencia are currently bottom of the table with just one point from five matches, while Corberán’s position came under increasing pressure following a defeat at Sevilla and underwhelming performances against Deportivo La Coruña and Barcelona at Mestalla.

The coach had signed a contract extension in June that was due to run until 2028 but has now left after just five games of the new campaign.
Corberán took charge of Valencia on December 25, 2024, following the dismissal of Rubén Baraja, and initially guided the club to a strong second half of the season.
Valencia had spent much of the campaign battling relegation before securing their top-flight status on the penultimate matchday with a victory over Real Sociedad. Corberán also had considerable influence over the club’s recruitment strategy.
Gourlay joined Valencia in May 2025 after his appointment was announced following a trip to Singapore involving Corberán and Javier Solís. His mandate was to help return the club to European competitions after four transfer windows.
He subsequently restructured the football department, removing Miguel Ángel Corona and Carmelo del Pozo before bringing in Isei, Gillhaus, Zamora and Shafei.
Sánchez is expected to take charge of the team for Tuesday’s fixture against Alavés at Mendizorroza, with Valencia scheduled to face Real Sociedad again on Sunday before the international break.
