UNIOSUN Leading Implementer Of FGN-ASUU Agreement – Osun Govt

The Osun State Government has rejected claims by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement at the Osun State University (UNIOSUN).

The state government said UNIOSUN had implemented the agreement even before the Federal Government and had also commenced payment of applicable arrears.

In a statement issued on Saturday and posted on the Osun State Government’s X handle, the government said it was “particularly curious” that ASUU commended some states for implementing the agreement but failed to acknowledge Osun’s efforts.

The government said Governor Ademola Adeleke was the second governor, after Ekiti State, to approve the implementation of the applicable salary adjustment.

“The Osun State Government considers this omission as mischief. Our commitment to staff welfare is unparalleled and the records in our University speak to this claim,” the statement said.

The state government therefore rejected any suggestion that it had been indifferent to the welfare of academic staff or had failed to meet its obligations under the agreement.

It said while ASUU had acknowledged outstanding issues in the federal university system, including unpaid portions of withheld salaries and deductions, it was unfair to suggest that Osun State had adopted a similar position towards UNIOSUN.

The government also disputed ASUU’s position on the legal status of the university, particularly the union’s claim that the Osun State University Law was a domesticated version of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act, 2012.

“That assertion is incorrect,” the state government said.

According to the statement, UNIOSUN has its own Establishment Law enacted by the Osun State House of Assembly.

“The University is therefore governed by its enabling legislation and the statutory framework applicable to its organs, including the Visitor, the Governing Council and other duly constituted authorities of the institution,” the government said.

The state government maintained that it respects ASUU’s constitutional and statutory rights to express its views and advocate for the welfare of its members, but said it was necessary to correct what it described as “misleading impressions” concerning its commitment and performance.

It reiterated that its implementation of the agreement and payment of applicable arrears demonstrated its commitment to the welfare of academic staff at UNIOSUN.
