Troops Foil Boko Haram Ambush in Borno, Destroy Terrorist

Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled a suspected Boko Haram ambush in Borno State, forcing the terrorists to retreat and recovering rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs and other military items.

The operation was conducted on Monday, September 7, 2026, along the Buni Gari-Buratai axis in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, when troops on routine patrol encountered suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops responded to the attack and forced the terrorists to withdraw from the area.

Following the encounter, reinforcement was deployed to the location. The troops subsequently cleared the ambush site and conducted further operations around the surrounding communities.

During the operation, the soldiers discovered and dismantled several makeshift camps believed to have been used by the terrorists as temporary staging areas and hideouts.

Troops Recover RPG Bombs, Ammunition

The military said the troops recovered several items during the operation.

The recovered items included a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs.

The military also disclosed that no personnel was killed or injured during the encounter.

However, some military vehicles sustained damage during the operation.

Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and completed the mission, according to the statement.

Military Intensifies Operations in Borno

The military described the operation as another demonstration of the determination of Operation HADIN KAI troops to restrict the movement of terrorist groups, disrupt their activities and protect communities across Nigeria’s North-East.

The security situation in the area remains calm but unpredictable, the military said, adding that troops have continued aggressive patrols and coordinated operations to prevent further attacks.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, persons and activities to security agencies.

The military stressed that timely and credible information from residents remains important to efforts to detect, disrupt and neutralise terrorist activities in the region.

The latest operation comes amid continued military efforts to degrade Boko Haram and other terrorist groups operating across Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
