The National Chairman of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu will win the presidential election in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in 2027.

Adeyeye said he remained “absolutely confident” in Tinubu’s re-election prospects, insisting that his confidence had grown stronger since he made the prediction six months ago.

The former Minister of State for Works spoke on Monday during an interview on Beyond the Headlines with Nifemi Oguntoye on TVC News.

“I am yet to identify one state in which the president will not win the election. Just one state. I’m yet to identify one state,” Adeyeye said.

He maintained that the President’s political standing had improved considerably since the 2023 election, arguing that Nigerians had become more receptive to his administration’s policies and reforms.

Adeyeye specifically dismissed the possibility of Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023, Peter Obi, retaining the level of support he enjoyed in the South-East and South-West during the last election.

According to him, Obi would not secure 25 per cent of the presidential vote in any South-West state, although Lagos could give him his strongest showing in the region.

He also rejected the possibility of Obi, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde forming a formidable opposition alliance.

Adeyeye described the prospect of the three politicians finding common ground as unlikely, citing what he called their individual presidential ambitions.

Even if such an alliance materialised, he argued, it would have little impact on Tinubu’s chances.

“Makinde, as the governor of Oyo State, his influence does not extend beyond that state,” he said, adding that the APC was already working to take control of Oyo State in 2027.

Adeyeye also pointed to the number of governors and elected officials he said were supporting Tinubu as evidence of the APC’s political advantage.

He claimed that 32 governors were currently “in our corner”, while others outside the APC had also pledged support for the President.

“Do not underestimate the influence of these governors,” he said, arguing that governors controlled significant political structures and machinery in their respective states.

The SWAGA chairman said the opposition’s efforts to produce a single presidential candidate would therefore not pose a serious threat to the APC.

He also dismissed the proposal by some opposition groups for a four-year transition government, describing it as unconstitutional.

“The Constitution of Nigeria provides for periodic elections every four years. There’s no question of transition,” Adeyeye said.

He argued that any proposal for a transition government amounted to an admission by the opposition that it expected to lose the 2027 election.

Adeyeye further credited Tinubu’s economic reforms with what he described as improvements in the country’s economy, saying Nigerians were beginning to see the benefits of the administration’s policies.

He cited student loans, payment of pensions and gratuities, salary payments, infrastructure development and improved agricultural production as examples.

The SWAGA chairman maintained that the 2027 election would therefore be fundamentally different from the 2023 contest.

He said Tinubu had spent the period since his election taking “bold decisions” and working to address longstanding challenges, arguing that the results would translate into stronger support for the President at the polls.
