Stray bullet kills 400-level student during land dispute in Niger

The Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State, has announced the “death of Isma’il Ishaq Magaji, a 400-level student of the Department of Public Administration.”

The university disclosed this in a statement by its Deputy Registrar, Information, Alhaji Baba Akote, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lapai on Saturday.

Akote said “Magaji lost his life after he was hit by a stray bullet during a land dispute in his hometown, Wawa, in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.”

He quoted the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Mohammed Sulaiman, as “extending condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, classmates and associates.”

Sulaiman described the incident as “distressing and a painful loss” to the entire university community.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to “forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give his family and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

The Vice-Chancellor “appealed to the communities involved in the dispute to embrace dialogue, exercise restraint and prioritise peaceful coexistence to prevent further loss of lives and unnecessary bloodshed.”

Meanwhile, there was no immediate confirmation from the police as of the time of filing this report.
