Soldier wounded as troops repel ISWAP attack on Borno military base

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Monday as the terrorists attempted to overrun the military base and disrupt security operations in the area.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the troops received support from the Nigerian Air Force and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The soldiers reportedly opened sustained fire on the attackers, forcing them to withdraw with casualties.
The Nigerian Air Force also provided intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support to the troops during the operation.
“As the terrorists withdrew, the air component reportedly carried out strikes on identified hostile elements, disrupting their movement and preventing them from regrouping,” Makama said.
One soldier was reportedly shot in the left arm during the attack. He was evacuated for medical treatment and later stabilised. His condition was said to be stable.
Following the attack, troops began further operations in the area to assess the damage caused to the terrorists, recover any weapons or equipment left behind, and gather intelligence for possible follow-up operations.
Military sources said troops remained deployed in and around Pulka and were on high alert.
The troops are continuing patrols and surveillance to prevent the terrorists from returning to the area or establishing a base there.
