Following recent security alerts, the Osun State Government has approved the establishment of a Joint Security Task Force (JSTF) to strengthen security response and tackle threats to lives and property in the state.

To ensure the smooth take-off of the JSTF, the state government has pledged to provide the necessary logistics to enhance the protection of lives and property across Osun State.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the decision was reached at the State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi.

The Deputy Governor told the commanders that the governor remains committed to further empowering security agencies to secure the state, while urging traditional rulers to sustain their local security oversight.

The government also allayed the fears of residents, assuring them that Osun State remains safe and secure.

The council, however, urged residents to remain extra vigilant, particularly around churches, mosques and schools, while calling on stakeholders to strengthen security measures around their premises.

While assuring the public of their safety, the council urged members of the public to promptly share useful intelligence with security agencies to help forestall possible attacks by suspected terrorists and bandits.

The Nigeria Police, in conjunction with other security agencies, were also directed to remain on 24-hour red alert to curtail any threats posed by suspected bandits and terrorists.

An agreement was also reached between the Ministry of Justice, the Nigeria Police and the DSS to collaborate in ensuring that all suspects are properly investigated and prosecuted without delay.
