Traffic authorities have reported severe congestion along the Mowe-Ibafo corridor of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following the ongoing OPIC-Kara traffic diversion.

The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mowe-Ibafo Divisional Command, said the resulting gridlock had extended to NASFAT Turning, creating significant traffic pressure along the corridor.

In a traffic situation report issued at 8:16 a.m. on Wednesday, TRACE said its operatives had been strategically deployed at NASFAT Turning to prevent motorists from driving against traffic on the outbound Lagos route.

The operatives are also controlling traffic and enforcing the approved traffic direction to prevent further obstruction and maintain the movement and safety of road users.

The development follows complaints by motorists on social media about prolonged delays along the Lagos-Ogun corridor, with some claiming they spent between eight and 10 hours in traffic.

The OPIC-Kara diversion has continued to put pressure on traffic movement around Mowe, Ibafo and adjoining sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

TRACE urged motorists to comply with traffic directions and avoid driving against traffic, which could further worsen the congestion.
