First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to reject division and embrace tolerance, justice, mutual respect and dialogue as the country marks the 2026 International Day of Peace.
In a message to commemorate the day on Monday, the First Lady said the theme, “Invest in Peace—For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” underscored the need for collective commitment to building and sustaining peace.
She said lasting peace could only be achieved through the participation of individuals and communities, noting that the responsibility begins within homes and extends to schools, workplaces and communities.
“Peace begins in our homes and extends to our schools, workplaces, and communities. It is strengthened through tolerance, patience, justice, mutual respect, and dialogue,” she said.
Oluremi Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to uphold values that promote unity and peaceful coexistence, urging citizens to contribute to peace through their daily words, choices and actions.
“I encourage all Nigerians to reject division and embrace the values that unite us as one people. Let us invest in peace through our words, choices, and actions every day.”
The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21 to promote peace and non-violence among nations and peoples.
The First Lady wished Nigerians a peaceful International Day of Peace 2026.
