Nnamdi Kanu: World awaits southeast leaders on political solution – IPOB lawyer, Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, the Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, said the world is waiting for Southeast governors and leaders for progress made on the push for a political solution to secure the Biafra agitator’s release.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre following a judgment by the Abuja Federal High Court.

The Justice James Omotosho-led court had found Kanu guilty of crimes committed during his agitation for Biafra.

Following his life sentence, some southeast leaders had appealed for a political resolution to secure his release.

However, Ejimakor said public record will show that, from day one, Kanu had made it clear that any dialogue or political solution must emanate from a position of honour and utmost good faith.

In a statement he signed, Ejimakor said it lies with the government to initiate the conducive environment for it.

The statement reads: “This press statement has become necessary to address the public, particularly those who latched on my recent public statement on “political solution” as it pertains to MAZI NNAMDI KANU, and twisted it to portray him as one desperate for political solution.

“To be sure, any political solution must be holistic and bear the basic elements of sincerity and dignity. Even those close to the government who had touted political solution are aware that these two basic elements must be present. Lessons were learned in September 2017 when political solution was bankable, but the government frustrated it by resorting to Python Dance.

“Thus, a political solution can never emanate from bended knees, but should proceed as the standard and inevitable conclusion to every agitation or conflict.

“Every political conflict ends around a table. Colonialism, apartheid, war, unjust political imprisonments, tensions between nations always ended around a table.

“Therefore, the world awaits Southeast leaders (in particular, the Governors) to advise on the progress they have made on the political solution they initiated as recently as June this year.”
