NIS intercepts 17 irregular migrants, arrests two with N34m ransom in Adamawa

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted 17 irregular migrants in Adamawa State.
The Service, in a separate operation around the same period, also arrested two suspected kidnappers with N34 million in cash, which the suspects allegedly admitted was ransom payment.

DAILY POST learnt on Wednesday morning that, in the first incident on Sunday, September 6, 2026, operatives arrested Alhaji Jaye, 55, and Buba Bello, 34, in possession of N34 million in cash.

During preliminary investigations, the duo reportedly confessed that the money was intended as ransom for the release of a captive.

According to a statement from the Adamawa State Command of the NIS, the command, in a separate development, intercepted 17 undocumented migrants at a private residence in Rumde Baru, a community in Yola South Local Government Area.

The statement, issued by the office of the state NIS Comptroller, Sule Jega, explained that the migrants comprised 13 Cameroonian nationals, including eight males and five females, as well as four male Chadian nationals.

The command said the use of a private residence by the migrants indicated a concerning shift in their lodging pattern, as undocumented migrants were increasingly moving from hotels to private apartments.
