Uganda’s President, Yoweri Museveni, has received the body of the late King of Tooro, His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, at Entebbe International Airport.

Museveni disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Friday, September 4, following the death of the monarch.

The president said the Queen Mother had informed him of the king’s illness in November 2025, after which efforts were made to secure specialised medical treatment for him in Germany and later the United States.

“Unfortunately, he died,” Museveni said.

Reflecting on the late monarch’s reign, the president described Oyo as “a good person and a good leader”, saying his death was a major loss to the people of Tooro and Uganda.

“Throughout his reign as King of Tooro, Oyo was a good person and a good leader. His passing is a great loss to the people of Tooro and Uganda,” he said.

Museveni also appealed to the people of Tooro to remain calm and maintain order as they mourn the monarch.

“I encourage the people of Tooro to remain calm and avoid disorganisation, even in this difficult time,” he said.

TVC News Online earlier reported that Museveni had revealed that aggressive cancer caused the death of the King of Tooro, His Highness Oyo, who died at the age of 34.

Museveni disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, August 29, while expressing condolences to the royal family and the people of Tooro over the monarch’s death.

The Ugandan leader said the government had supported the late king’s family in seeking medical treatment abroad after it was informed that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

“Some months back, Her Royal Highness Kemigisa, Nyinomukama, came to tell me that the Muzzukulu Oyo had cancer that was very aggressive,” Museveni said.

According to him, the government facilitated the monarch’s treatment in Germany and later the United States, where he eventually died.
