Maritime Journalists Honour ABER Women’s Forum Secretary

The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has honoured the Secretary General of the Africa Blue Economy Roundtable (ABER) Women’s Forum, Chizoba Anyika,

The award recognises Anyika’s outstanding performance, exemplary leadership and meritorious service to Nigeria’s maritime industry.

AMJON presented the award in Lagos under the leadership of its President, Mrs. Vera Osokpo.

The association recognised Anyika’s more than 20 years of contributions to maritime administration, logistics, marine tourism, and advocacy for women and youth.

Anyika is a deputy director at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and head of the Maritime Guard Command Administration.

In that capacity, she oversees personnel management, welfare, audit and operational support within the command.

As Secretary General of the ABER Women’s Forum, Anyika provides leadership in policy engagement, capacity building and strategic partnerships across Africa.

Her responsibilities include advancing women’s participation in maritime, fisheries, shipping, ports, marine tourism and other blue economy sectors.

“This honour strengthens our resolve at the ABER Women’s Forum to amplify African women’s voices in maritime governance and economic development,” Anyika said after receiving the award.

“Leadership must translate into real opportunities for more women and young professionals across the continent,” she added.

Anyika also holds leadership positions with Women in Energy, Oil & Gas (WEOG) and the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIOTA).

Through her professional and continental engagements, Anyika has continued to bridge maritime policy, industry practice, capacity development and innovation.

Osokpo said the recognition demonstrates AMJON’s commitment to celebrating excellence and women contributing significantly to Africa’s maritime development.

Our correspondent reports that ABER Women’s Forum is the gender and youth platform of the Africa Blue Economy Roundtable.

The forum promotes women’s and youth participation and leadership in Africa’s blue economy through advocacy, capacity building, enterprise development and strategic partnerships.

Its focus areas include gender-responsive policies in maritime affairs, fisheries, shipping, ports, marine tourism and inland waterways.

It also promotes mentorship, training and access to finance for women-led enterprises across the blue economy.

The forum amplifies women’s leadership across the blue economy value chain and facilitates cross-country collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Through advocacy, partnerships and programmes, the forum seeks to advance a more inclusive, competitive and sustainable blue economy across Africa.
