The Lagos State Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), in partnership with Fidelity Bank Plc, has trained 400 proprietors, school leaders and administrators of yet-to-be-approved private schools on regulatory requirements and the school approval process.
In a post on the Lagos State Government Facebook page, the agency said the one-day free Approval Intervention Workshop was held on Thursday at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Ikeja.
The workshop was organised to help participating schools understand the standards and requirements for approval while promoting the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality education across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of OEQA, Dr Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, said the initiative was aimed at addressing misconceptions surrounding the approval process and equipping private school operators with the knowledge and capacity needed to meet and exceed the state’s educational standards.
Ogunmuyiwa urged school proprietors to see regulatory compliance as an opportunity to strengthen their institutions, improve their credibility and enhance learning outcomes rather than as a burden.
He also highlighted child safeguarding and protection, effective school governance, adequate infrastructure, qualified personnel and curriculum compliance as essential components of quality education.

According to him, “OEQA remains committed to engaging private schools as strategic partners in advancing education quality across Lagos State.”
The Director-General also commended Fidelity Bank Plc for its strategic partnership and continued support for the education sector, noting that stronger private schools would help expand access to quality learning opportunities for children across the state.
The workshop brought together operators from 400 private schools and provided practical guidance on the documentation, procedures and standards required to obtain school approval.

The intervention is part of OEQA’s broader efforts to improve quality assurance through stakeholder engagement, strategic partnerships, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
The agency said it would continue to collaborate with stakeholders in the private education sector to promote safer schools, stronger systems and improved educational standards across Lagos State.
