Lagos Makes LASRRA Number Compulsory For School Enrolment

The Lagos State Government has made registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) compulsory for learners seeking admission into public and private schools across the state from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The directive, announced by the state government on Friday, September 4, 2026, requires schools to obtain and record the valid LASRRA registration number of every learner as part of the admission and enrolment process from Monday, September 14.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, approved the directive, which is being implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance.

The government said the policy was aimed at creating a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners to improve planning, monitoring and service delivery in the education sector.

Alli-Balogun said the initiative was part of the state’s broader strategy to develop “a reliable and verifiable database of learners” across Lagos.

According to him, capturing learners on the LASRRA database would strengthen school record-keeping, improve identification and verification, facilitate tracking and provide government agencies with credible data for evidence-based decision-making.

Under the new arrangement, schools are required to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records.

They are also expected to sensitise parents and guardians about the requirement and advise those whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process before the new academic session.

The government, however, directed schools to protect learners’ personal information and ensure that such data is handled confidentially and securely in line with applicable data protection standards.

The Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, said his office would work with LASRRA and other relevant agencies to establish modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.

He said sensitisation, registration and verification support would also be provided to schools, parents, guardians and learners.

Ogunmuyiwa added that compliance with the directive would form part of the OEQA’s monitoring and quality assurance activities across public and private schools in the state.

He urged parents, guardians and school proprietors to ensure that learners are registered with LASRRA before the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic session.

He stressed that the registration requirement “is mandatory”.
