The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, announced the development at the ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry, Peter Amogbonjaye, a copy of which was obtained by PUNCH Online.
According to the statement, the approved academic calendar is intended to ensure the smooth running of academic activities and improve learning outcomes across schools in the state.
Olohungbebe said, “The 2026/2027 academic session would commence on September 21, 2026, and end in July 2027. The calendar provides dates for resumption, mid-term breaks, examinations and vacations for the three terms”.
The commissioner urged proprietors, school heads, teachers, parents and students to adhere strictly to the approved dates to ensure effective coordination of academic activities across the state.
“The government is committed to standardising the school system and ensuring that our learners are not left behind. Compliance with this calendar will help us achieve better coordination and academic excellence,” he said.
The commissioner also reiterated the commitment of the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to repositioning the education sector and ensuring that students in the state were equipped to compete nationally and globally.
The statement urged all stakeholders in both public and private schools to comply with the approved calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session.
