Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has opened a fresh political front, accusing the governors of Kwara and Imo states, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Hope Uzodinma, of leading what he described as a campaign of political warfare against him.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, September 2, Wike alleged that the two governors had turned against him despite the support he claimed to have given them, declaring that he would not remain silent while political attacks were mounted against him.
The former Rivers State governor said AbdulRazaq had been at the forefront of what he described as a campaign against him, adding that he had personally confronted the Kwara governor over the issue.
“Take for example, Kwara, he has been the one championing this campaign against me everywhere. Yes, I have confronted him too. I don’t talk about what I cannot defend,” Wike said.
According to the minister, AbdulRazaq had accused him of backing political candidates opposed to the governor’s preferred choices in Kwara State.
Wike, however, rejected the allegation, arguing that the Kwara governor should instead acknowledge the political support he had offered him and other members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said he had provided a political platform for some aggrieved APC chieftains who left the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than allowing them to join the opposition coalition against President Bola Tinubu.
Wike also accused Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma of failing to reciprocate the support he had allegedly received from him.
“Governor Hope, he knows the support I give to him,” the minister said, while recalling that the Imo governor had at one point declined to support him.
The accusations come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with Wike, despite remaining a PDP member, continuing to openly support President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The FCT minister insisted that his political position had never been hidden, saying those who accused him of working against APC governors should identify what support they had given him in his own political battles.
“Any Nigerian who knows me know that I have never hidden my intention,” he said.
Wike nevertheless maintained that his disagreements with the two governors would not distract him from his commitment to supporting Tinubu’s return to office in 2027.
His latest remarks further highlight the political tensions surrounding Wike’s alliances with members of the APC, even as he remains formally associated with the PDP.
