The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Council of Delta State, Warri Friday, has welcomed the establishment of the army’s 246 Recce Battalion in Oleh, describing the development as a major boost to security and the protection of critical oil and gas assets in the area.

Friday made the statement when a delegation from the Army Headquarters, Abuja, led by Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo, paid him a courtesy visit.

The local government chairman expressed delight over the decision to establish the army unit in Oleh, stressing that the presence of the battalion would significantly strengthen security operations and improve the army’s response time to security threats across the area.

According to him, Isoko remains strategically important to Nigeria’s economy, particularly because of its significant contribution to the nation’s oil and gas industry and the presence of other critical national assets that require adequate protection.

“We in Isoko South are happy to have this battalion. With the creation of this battalion, we are safer,” Friday said.

He further assured the army delegation of the local government’s readiness to support the establishment and effective operation of the battalion, including efforts toward securing its permanent site.

Earlier, Brigadier General Chibueze Ogbuabo said his visit is to inspect and assess the activities and progress of the newly established unit.

He commended the local government for its support and appealed to the chairman to facilitate the issuance of the permanent Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for the army’s proposed permanent site, located between Oleh and Ozoro.

The site, he explained, is expected to serve as an important operational base for the battalion and cover a wider area of operation.

The development is expected to further strengthen security collaboration between the army and the Isoko South Local Government Council, while enhancing the protection of lives, communities and strategic economic assets within the region.
