FUTO VC’s Facebook impersonation…

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has warned the public about a fraudulent Facebook account allegedly using the name and photograph of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ikechukwu Dozie.

The university said the Vice-Chancellor does not maintain a personal Facebook account and urged members of the public to disregard any account claiming to be operated by him.

FUTO’s Public Relations Officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, issued the warning in a statement on Thursday in Owerri, Imo State.

According to the university, its management was alerted to a Facebook account using the name and photograph of the Vice-Chancellor, identified as Prof. I.N.S. Dozie.

The institution stressed that the account has no connection with the Vice-Chancellor and should not be treated as an official channel of communication.

“Any Facebook account claiming to belong to Prof. I.N.S. Dozie is fake, and has no connection whatsoever with the Vice-Chancellor,” the university stated.

FUTO also warned that the impersonation could be used by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.

The university advised users who encounter such accounts not to respond to messages from them or provide money, gifts or personal information.

It further urged anyone who comes across an account impersonating the Vice-Chancellor to report it to Facebook and notify the university.

The warning comes as prospective students await updates on the institution’s ongoing admission process and the release of its admission list.

The university therefore advised admission seekers and members of the public to exercise caution and rely only on verified FUTO channels for official information.
