Flood allegedly sweeps away 12-year-old girl in Umuahia

A twelve-year-old girl simply identified as Ella, has been swept away by flood in Agbama area of Umuahia, Abia State.
The incident happened at about 7pm on Monday, during a five-hour rain, causing anxiety among the residents of the area.
It was alleged that the young girl was sent on an errand during the rain, before she fell into a big gutter.
It was alleged that the gutters around the Agbama, Road Two and World Bank areas of Umuahia were covered by the risen water levels, a situation that confused the victim to mis-step into the gutters before being swept away.
On receiving information that the young girl had been swept away, residents of Agbama immediately organized a search party, a search that extended to the big gutters at Low Cost Housing Estate, World Bank Housing Estate and Umuafai community.
The search party which was extended to 10:30 pm Monday night, was suspended and resumed on Tuesday morning but could not produce the missing child.
As of the time of this report, relevant government agencies in Abia State were yet to confirm or release an official statement about the incident.
Messages and calls made by DAILY POST to the State Police Command and State Homeland Security Agency Board, were not responded to as of 7pm on Tuesday.
