Flamingos Face Burkina Faso In WAFU B U17 Girls Cup Clash

Nigeria’s Flamingos will face Burkina Faso U17 on Monday, September 21, in Yamoussoukro as Coach Akeem Busari’s side continue their campaign at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup.

The Flamingos sit top of the competition after winning their opening two matches and scoring nine goals. They defeated Niger 5-0 on September 16 before securing a 4-2 victory over Ghana two days later despite playing the second half with 10 players.

Burkina Faso, meanwhile, suffered a 4-0 defeat to Ghana in their opening game before responding with a 1-0 victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

Nigeria Flamingos so far

Two games, two wins and nine goals underline Nigeria’s strong start to the competition.

Nigeria 5-0 Niger — September 16, Lycée Scientifique

Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Awawu Bashiru doubled the advantage in the 35th minute.

Ohunene Sunday added a third in the 83rd minute, while Mary Dunstan also found the net before Ayomide Rotimi completed the scoring in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Nigeria 4-2 Ghana — September 18, Lycée Scientifique

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi gave Nigeria the lead in the 33rd minute before Harmony Chidi doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time.

Elizabeth Adesuyi was sent off in the 59th minute, leaving Nigeria with 10 players.

Mary Dunstan restored Nigeria’s two-goal advantage in the 70th minute before Kaosarat Akanji made it 4-1 in the 87th minute with a free-kick.

Ghana scored a second late in the match, but Nigeria held on for the victory.

Chidi has scored in both of Nigeria’s matches, while Dunstan has also found the net in both games. Adegbuyi opened the scoring against Ghana, with Akanji completing the victory with her free-kick.

Burkina Faso so far

Ghana 4-0 Burkina Faso — September 15, CKB

Burkina Faso 1-0 Côte d’Ivoire — September 18, Lycée Scientifique

Burkina Faso began the competition with a heavy defeat to Ghana but responded with a narrow victory over hosts Côte d’Ivoire.

The result leaves them with one win and one defeat, with one goal scored and four conceded.

Nigeria currently lead the table after Matchday 2, with Monday’s encounter providing another test for the Flamingos in their bid to maintain their position in the league-format competition.

Burkina Faso will look to build on their compact display against Côte d’Ivoire, while Nigeria will aim to control possession and create opportunities against a side expected to defend in numbers.

Patience, set pieces and game management could prove important for the Flamingos if Burkina Faso make it difficult to break them down.
