Parts of the SIC building in Takoradi have reportedly been engulfed in flames, with the fire affecting sections of the upper floors.
The incident is said to have attracted attention in the area as thick smoke billowed from the building. Firefighters from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority’s Fire Brigade were seen at the scene working to bring the blaze under control.
Footage from the scene shows firefighters directing water towards the affected section of the building as they attempt to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, while details about possible injuries, the extent of the damage and whether anyone was trapped inside have not yet been confirmed.
The response team is expected to continue efforts to completely extinguish the flames and secure the building.
The Ghana National Fire Service are also likely to assess the affected areas to determine the level of damage caused by the incident.
