The Federal Government has urged Nigerian youths and women to take advantage of opportunities in livestock production, agribusiness, technology and value-chain development to create jobs and strengthen food security.

The call was made by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, while addressing more than 3,000 youths, students and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members at the Arewa Agriculture and Innovation Summit 2026 in Kano.

The Presidency disclosed this in a statement via its X handle on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Maiha urged participants to look beyond traditional livestock rearing and explore opportunities in processing, branding, packaging and export, saying value addition could help unlock the economic potential of the sector.

The minister called for a shift “from traditional livestock rearing to processing, branding, packaging and exports” as part of efforts to create jobs, improve food security and position Northern Nigeria as a major agribusiness hub.

The Federal Government said the summit was designed to encourage young Nigerians to explore emerging opportunities across the agricultural value chain, particularly as technology and innovation reshape the sector.

The Presidency said greater participation by youths and women in livestock and value-added agriculture could contribute to employment generation, food production and broader economic development.
